I can’t really explain Punnet squares, though I’ve had to do a bunch. But Dominant and Recessive in genes is where a certain gene has been dominant over the recessive. Example: the gene for brown eyes are usually dominant over the gene for green eyes and brown hair is doninant over red. The father usually carries the dominant gene.
A dominant trait is one that only needs one allele to be expressed in the phenotype. For example:
If R is the allele for green eyes and r is the allele for brown eyes, then a person would only need one R to get green eyes (which would make green the dominant trait) while you would need two r’s to get brown (making it recessive).
I can’t put the punnet square here but if you take a look at the source site, you’ll see what one looks like.
So in this case, you would have green eyes most of the time as R is expressed 3/4 times (or 75% of the time), while rr is only expressed 1/4 times (or 25%)
I hope this makes sense! I gave a reference for the punnet square.
well the dominant trait is the one that show up first and recessive is in the backround!and punnett squares work easy!if you have one parent with th genes PPthan yo write it on the top two squares and if you have another parent with the genes Pp write it beside the other two squares!!then inside you would have in order from left to right PP,PP,pP,pP!all you do is cross the genes
Punnet Sqaures are the easiest thing to use once you figure it out! its hard to explain without drawing a diagram, but its like those mulitplication tables sqaure thingys u find on the back of exercise books, and u choose which variables u want then follow it across the line….that doesnt explain it very well i know…
